Leading-edge and innovative organization, the National Battlefields Commission wanted to adopt a sustainable development policy and action plan. The Commission is not subject to a sustainable development policy, which makes the task that much more innovative.
We made a diagnosis based on standard SD 21000 through interviews with staff members, then created a sustainable development advisory committee. This first step led us to the development of a written sustainable development policy, action plan and schedule. This was achieved hand-in-hand with the Board of Governors and afore-mentioned advisory committee.
In addition to integrating sustainable development into the daily activities of the organization and engaging management in the approach through the advisory committee, we provided managers with a decision-making grid based on the dimensions of sustainable development.
